Year 2000 Readiness Disclosure

3/8/99

Typically most people will have year 2000 problems if they are using date stamped files. Our older machines’ operating systems do not require files that have date stamps. Even if the older computer system does not roll over to the year 2000 this should not create a problem with our machines.

Our machines that use Point and Sew™ do use date stamp for historical tracking, but only in Batch Mode. The date stamp is a "Y2K" 4 digit compliant database field. However, even if the computer is not year 2000 compliant, the Quilter will still function properly. To verify that the computer is year 2000 compliant you can perform the following test. NOTE: This test only needs to be performed on Gribetz Quilters running Point and Sew™ Software in Batch Mode. However, if you have a Quilter that has Point and Sew™ Software and want to check the date, perform the following test as well.

!!CAUTION!!
BACKUP SYSTEM BEFORE PERFORMING ANY TEST

To check the date, perform the following test:

You must first get to the DOS prompt. The version of DOS loaded on the machine dictates how you get to the DOS prompt.

Turn the machine on and look for either the "blue DesqView" screen or a statement that allows you to enter "F5". If necessary, let the machine go all the way through its power up procedure so you can determine which you see. After you have done this, turn the machine off and power up again; however, at the "blue DesqView" screen enter ctrl-alt-del or "F5" to change the system to DOS prompt.

  1. From the DOS prompt type "date 12/31/1999" then <enter>
  2. Then type "time 23:58:00:0" then <enter>
  3. Turn the computer completely off.
  4. Wait at least 3 minutes then turn the computer back on.
  5. The time on your computer should be just past midnight and the date should be January 1, 2000.
  6. After performing the test, return the computer to the current date by following the same procedure.

If a date problem appears, depending on the computer in your Quilter, listed below is the corrective action to take.

PC Based (Nematron, DynaComp) - NOT running Point and Sew™ Software
A date will have to be manually entered into the system the first time it is used in 2000. To do this, use the above procedure steps 1 and 2. However, instead of typing 12/31/99, use whatever the current date and time is when you first use the Quilter. Note: Once the date is changed in 2000 it will stay. However, 2000 is a leap year; you should check your system’s date on February 29 and, if needed, set date and time using steps 1 and 2.

Gribetz Service and Parts Departments have a diskette that allows the BIOS to be updated to handle the date rollover. Note: Ask for part #J550000550 (no charge).

After using the diskette, simply verify the system date before using the quilter in the year 2000. If the date is not correct, set the date and time using steps 1 and 2.
